About
I am delighted to take this opportunity to share my unwavering commitment and enthusiasm for our remarkable city. While I may not possess a political background, my lifelong residency in Calera fuels my passion for its growth and prosperity. Over the years, I have witnessed the transformation of our city, from its humble beginnings to the vibrant place it is today. Now, I hold a vision for Calera that extends beyond being a mere pit stop for travelers en route to the beach. I envision a place where visitors eagerly anticipate their visits and where our residents can forge lasting memories with their loved ones.
You may wonder how we can bring this vision to life. I firmly believe that by collaborating with the Main Street Calera team and focusing on fostering new businesses and providing engaging entertainment options, we can breathe new life into the heart of Calera’s historic district. Together, we can revitalize our community, making it a captivating destination that captivates the hearts of both locals and visitors alike.
Let us now address a challenge that we faceāthe issue of train traffic. Although trains can sometimes be seen as an inconvenience, we must remember that they are an essential part of our nation’s transportation system. Nevertheless, I am thrilled about the forthcoming construction of the Hwy 25 (railroad) bypass. This bypass will serve as a catalyst for the development of Old Calera, allowing our new vision to take shape. Additionally, the bypass will alleviate the traffic congestion caused by trains, ensuring smoother transportation flows throughout our city.
Now, let us turn our attention to the esteemed Calera Sports Complex. While I was not involved in its initial development, I am now excited to contribute to its future. The complex serves as a magnet for visitors from all corners of the United States, and when we hear them praise it as a “Nice facility,” it should fill us with pride. Together, let us showcase the outstanding offerings and amenities of the Calera Sports Complex, further solidifying its status as a top-tier destination.
As our city grows, concerns regarding safety and security naturally arise. I take great pride in the leadership of Chief Hyche and the exemplary Calera Police Department, who are dedicated to providing top-notch protection for our community. The same holds true for Chief Kendrick and our outstanding Fire Department. As a council member, one of my priorities is to ensure that these essential departments are equipped with the latest resources to safeguard all citizens and visitors in Calera.
Infrastructure development is another crucial aspect of our city’s progress. I wholeheartedly acknowledge the concerns surrounding road infrastructure, particularly the frustrating traffic jams on weekends. However, it is essential to recognize that Calera does not have control over Hwy 31 or I-65 South, as these are governed by state and federal authorities. Nevertheless, there is hope on the horizon. Plans are underway to expand I-65, widening the interstate from Exit 238 in Alabaster to Exit 231 in Calera. While I cannot provide an exact start date, rest assured that the Mayor and the City Engineers have been diligently collaborating with ALDOT and other relevant parties to address our current traffic challenges.
Recently, I had the privilege of participating in the awarding of the new Senior Citizens van bid. Our esteemed senior citizens, much like our youth, deserve access to the finest amenities Calera has to offer. It brings me immense joy to envision our seniors embarking on their upcoming adventures in style and comfort.
As the newest member of the Council, I am determined to be a devoted steward of our citizens’ needs and aspirations.
